Managed Online Backups

Introduction to Managed Online Backups?

Managed Online Backups is an automated solution that allows PCs and laptops to backup and recover data securely online, share files, collaborate with co-workers, store files online, and access data from a remote location. Our service automatically backs up computers via an internet connection to secure data centres. Your data is secured with military-grade encryption (112-bit) for safe transmission to off-site storage locations.

Manged Online Backups performs a backup of all selected files, either full system, data only or network data. After the initial backup is complete, each subsequent backup session looks for all new files and the changed portions of previously backed-up files to append to the backup set. Your data is then compressed, encrypted, and transmitted over an IP (internet) connection to secure data centres.

How Managed Online Backups Work

Use our online backup service to secure your data offsite, stored encrypted in two state-of-the-art UK data centres, underpinned by BS7799 processes. Benefit from reliable proven software in use today protecting over two million computers world-wide. Solutions include daily backups for workstations and laptops as well as comprehensive protection for business servers and applications.

What is my Data Worth?

As a business leader you value your business and the business data at its heart: client records, proposals, invoices, production, lists, presentations.  Loss of data can disrupt business life and destroy business value.  Be it human error, theft  flood or virus attack.

Your two most important assets are data & time.  Lose access to data and you’ve lost time.  On average 20Mb of data takes 30 hours to build and is worth £50 000.

Lost businesses backup data using tape backup; but is it done daily?  Who in the company is responsible for making sure it happens?  Are they qualified and is it what they're paid for?   Are tapes stored securely off-site?   Will the restore actually work when it's needed?

Here are some sobering statistics: 99% of all business do not do a daily backup, 60% of backups are incomplete, 50% of restores fail, only 25% of tapes stored off-site and end user compliance with backups is only 8%.

And the consequences of this can be severe:

"On average, by the 6th day of a major data loss, companies experience a 25% loss in daily revenue. By day 25 it is 40%."

"43% of companies that experience a severe data loss disaster, and that have no recovery plan in place, never re-open."

"The average cost to a UK SME of a virus attack is £843 with an average downtime of 7.2 hours."

"43% of companies that experience a severe data loss disaster, and that have no recovery plan in place, never re-open."

What is more, the law insists that businesses take care:

"You must safeguard your own or anyone else's data, by appropriate precautions against loss, corruption or unauthorized disclosure" - Data Protection Act, 1998

  • What are the Benefits of using Managed Online Backups?

Cheaper. Faster. Better. Wouldn’t it be nice?
Online backup provides a simple, automated and secure method to protect critical business data. Yours could be simple 'file' data or more complex databases such as Microsoft Exchange and SQL. In all cases the hassle-free peace-of-mind provided by online backup is refreshing:

  • Hassle free - backups are automatic, daily and transparent
  • Minimised downtime in case of data loss - restores are fast and easy
  • Fixed pricing plans with no upfront capital for hardware, software, training
  • Reduced costs with no tapes or zip drives to buy nor staff time wasted
  • Multiple file versions stored allowing earlier work to be recovered
  • Only changes are sent resulting in efficient and non-disruptive backups
  • Protect PCs Laptops, Network data and Systems files with one solution
  • Industry-leading proven technology and military-grade security
  • Off-site storage and data encryption for ultimate security of key business data
  • Guaranteed data recovery when needed - backed by Service Level Agreement
  • Better compliance with the law - Data Protection Act 1998
  • CD based retrieval and archiving
  • 24x7 monitoring and support

  • WARNING! Traditional backups have serious limitations for small business:

  • Often unreliable, requiring training and staff to run
  • Complex, time consuming and difficult to do daily
  • Static, not live - meaning latest files are not always the ones backed up
  • Expensive to purchase and maintain
  • What are the Cost Savings? (Potentially £6600 per year!)

The investment in both time and money for a business to install, run and maintain a backup solution can be significant. Outsourcing your backup functions is not just about ensuring your business is using the latest technology but that your data is always protected. It's also about saving time so that you can concentrate your business resources on running and growing your own business. Having you or your staff making sure the backups have worked is almost certainly costing you more than if you outsourced this function to us.
